Vice President Engineering
Reporting to the Vice-President – General Manager, the jobholder plays a strategic role in the company, not limited to the following. Focused on high-level project management, as well as personnel management, the jobholder is responsible for all activities arising from the engineering department.
Main responsibilities
- Personnel management and mentoring;
- Design and produce plans and specifications for more complex projects;
- Act as liaison between the various parties involved, subcontractors and customers;
- Positively represent the company to customers and potential referral sources, reinforcing the company’s reputation as an industry leader;
- Maintain positive relationships with customers;
- Review and approve service proposals. Review cost estimates and ensure that all information impacting scope and price has been taken into account;
- Participate in budget development, monitor departmental spending and labor budgets;
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge and research the latest advances in their industry/speciality, including potential improvements in technology and/or working methods;
- Design or adapt processes to increase efficiency and look for new ways to reduce operational costs without sacrificing efficiency and quality;
- Time sheet audits;
- Monthly invoicing.
Basic skills
- Excellent oral and written skills in French and English
Technical skills
- In-depth knowledge of design, project management and implementation of large-scale civil infrastructure projects;
- Strong technical expertise in large-scale project management;
- Expertise in dimensioning tools (SWMM and Épanet);
- Have a valid driver’s license and a car.

Prior training or certification
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering;
- Be a member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec;
- Be a member in good standing of the Professional Engineers of Ontario;
- Be a member in good standing of the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland & Labrador;
- Have received training in worksite safety (ASP card);
- AQTR INF-MUN-2 training (an asset).
Required experience
- Minimum of fifteen (15) years experience in infrastructure engineering;
- Significant experience in managing large-scale projects in an executive position;
- Experience in team management.
- MBA (an asset)
